I must be the only one who doesn't know the small unit of the UK Airforce. Will someone please enlighten me.

Wing is the obvious answer - but it's wrong! A 'flight ' is the smallest unit - then 'squadron' then 'wing' - which is composed of several squadrons. NO wonder Bellringer was foxed!

In fairness to Kate Mepham the clue states "small" not "smallest".

Yes the clue actually says ' Small unit of the UK Air Force, comprising two to four squadrons',. So squadron is already mentioned to start with!
