Here is this weeks very late enigmatic variations

To all EV regulars!

After discussion with Cruciverbalist, I am prepared to undertake the statistics for the Telegraph EV. This is because several people find the timeframe until submission too short and in my opinion there have been some crosswords harder than the listener. It would be interesting to see these statistics and depending on the results may influence this timeframe.

I could never reach the echelon of J Green and it must be stressed I don't submit the EV and never will do. So I have no interest other than seeing how we fair.

E-mail a scanned copy or a list of the answers with the info of the required theme to [email protected] by 6pm on the Wednesday after the EV (i.e. last post). However please e-mail me whenever you have finished as they will be invaluable to the statistics.

Just use any alias and not your name (if you don't want to) or home address. As we generally do with the listener threads hints and tips only on the threads. Comments are most welcome and I will copy this every week, so spread the word.

Thanks for link midazolam - it's fortunate the weather has been so good today, otherwise I'd have been at a loose end without EV !

Can I wish you all the best with your new venture and encourage a good response from visitors to Answerbank, including hopefully those who are not necessarily regular contributors to these threads. I'm sure your stats will be of great interest to us, so thanks for your initiative.

Many thanks for posting the link. I was unable to do so myself as I am temporarily off-line at home.
Thanks also for your offer to compile stats for EV. I shall certainly participate.

As to this week's EV I am sure I have seen this Sudoku theme before but it is most enjoyable nonetheless.
Agreed..........brilliant puzzle.

But can someone explain how 53ac works?
Can see H,R,O, & T as odd letters of Charlotte, but where are the A & T indicated (assuming I've not made a mistake somewhere)?
Here, letters regularly dropped means every fourth letter, not every second letter.
The 'drop-outs' are alternate odd letters, ie 1st, 5th and 9th.
Thanks both for the explanation!
crossword completed, now for the difficult bit, how to email a scanned copy !
