19d Bribe to make one bonny & blithe, and good & gay (6)

The obvious answer is Suborn, bribe, but the rest of the word play is confusing to me. Sunday's child is healthy & wealthy, and SU is not a recognised abbreviation for Sunday to give Su Born.

Any ideas please?

It must be suborn

Child born on the seventh day is bonny and blithe and good and gay according to the references I saw.
Some abbreviations for Sunday are just 'su'.

Thanks yogasun.

I thought it had to be suborn but I was hesitant as Chambers does not give SU as an accepted abbreviation of Sunday but instead gives SUN.

From what you say, other sources must have SU.
My calendar has SU for Sunday written on it.
