Hello - it's the prodigal daughter returning to ask a TERRIBLY serious question.... I'm having an 80's party for my 40th - what, if any, entertainment should we have?! We've rented a hall with a bar, we've got loads of food, and a playlist to get everyone dancing and people are dressing up, but should we do anything else???

(Please noone say karaoke..!!)

Any ideas at all would be fab, thanks!

Helloooooooo!!

I neglected you all - I'm so sorry! I got a job for a few months and got out of the answerbank habit, but now I need help, so I knew where to turn straightaway!! Have I missed anything???!!

Thanks weeal - the 80's theme is so that I can pretend to be 16 again haha!!
Welcome back nutgoneflake , you have only missed the usual really sweets but must say most of it happens on Chatterbank now , we all have a good natter on there ;-) xxxx
Why not print some quiz sheets up on the 80s with prizes?

A quiz would be good - I wondered about getting people to rsvp with a photo of themselves in the 80's so we could have a display of them, but maybe a quiz could have them in too. Is that too cheesey??!

I might have a look at chatterbank, bigmamma. It was when that was just starting that I wandered off, and also because some people seemed to be intent on spoiling it for the rest, but I did miss some of you!! How are you????
It still gets a bit hairy love but I just stay out of those threads , there are lots of lovely people that make it worth while staying to me. I am well thank you , hope you are too .
The 80s piccys are a good idea , make it so they have to guess whos who , or get them to give baby piccys of themselves or childhood ones. :-) xxxxx
Get on your rollerskates and pretend you are in Xanadu.

I read somewhere about lip-synching contests too - not quite as awful to watch as karaoke. We could give them a hairbrush to sing into, and a bedroom mirror...teehee!

We're all well here in sunny (not!) Somerset, thanks xxxx

Good grief - Xanadu!! I'd forgotten that - one more for the playlist I think......
A friend of mine hired a jukebox filled with 80s tunes for her 40th and that seemed to go down well. Not sure how much it cost though
Question Author
I bet that'd be a lot! Luckily, we've got a fab playlist on my ipod and a friend of hub's has a PA we can borrow. I bought loads of 80's compilation CDs on ebay for practically nothing - one I got for 6p! - and we've got enough to dance to for the whole evening!

I'd love a jukebox for home though...I know someone with one in their living room and they've got a jar full of old 10p pieces so they can use it! No good for me though - it's full of Elvis. (He's odd that way!)
