THE General Knowledge Crossword in THE Sunday Telegraph this week was THE worst crossword ever set. Maybe THE compilers should get THE members of THE public to submit their crosswords in THE vain attempt to make THE clues a little harder? What do THE other cruciverbalists here think?

I think you cols say it was THE pits.
cols? = could
(trying to type too fast for my fingers)
This is just an ongoing trend. Last week's Scrabble had two possible correct answers (not for the first time) and you could only get an answer in one of last month's 500 quizzes if you spelt "dessert" (as in "just desserts") as "desert" instead.

They've already killed-off Stirling Moss and made Herbert Hoover head of the FBI, not to mention creating a completely fictitious capital of Burundi, and in last Saturday's GK crossword, they recycled the myth that pirates made people walk the plank. I think a major overhaul is in order at Buckingham Palace Road.
Agree about this week's crossword.
To hadrianjeffs -- the correct spelling in just deserts is with one "s" not 2. Confirmed by OED, Chambers and Encarta. That doesn't, however, distract from the very good point which you make.
