Think this was "Mama Told Me" by Fantastique a big HI-NRG/Eurobeat tune (at least in Glasgow) in about 1984.

hi elipledge your first answer was correct but oh my god didn't realise it was as far back as the 80's 1981 to be exact thanks again you were spot on i remember it from my dancing days in glasgow

81!!! Surely not! I remember it from the heyday (such as it was) of HI-NRG in 1984 - Earlene Bentley, Transvision X (?) - Living on Video, Lisa - Rocket to Your Heart - all that stuff. Do you remember Bill Granger on Allright Allnight on Clyde? Mike Riddoch used to play a lot too. It must have taken a couple of years to "break" in the UK then!
