I thought it remiss of Kate to give the clue to 13 across in plural form only for the answer to be in the singular to allow an A as third letter in 7 down. Also she stretched 17 across to have OFF as the ending instead of the usual OV

The ship IS in singular from i.e.East Indiaman

I agree frankleigh that the answer is East Indiaman but from the clue the answer should have been East Indiamen.

Sorry Minoru - remiss of me not to read the clue as well as your question. You are of course correct - Kate's clue does seem to be looking for a plural as the answer.
i think she owes us an apology
