it does not matter - i have always used the j .. in the dictionary i have it lists the 'i' version as an alternative spelling

It's not safe to assume that alternative spellings will be accepted, if only because you can never be certain that the setter is aware of the spelling that you are using.

I could be wrong , but I have put maiolica as I presumed this to be the Italian spelling, and majolica the English spelling.
Both are in Chambers.
