Guessing measurements

I tried making porridge this morning in the microwave - it said to use 45g of porridge oats and 340ml of milk and the microwave for 4mins. I completely guessed at the measurements and ended up exploding it inside the microwave. Not a good move.

Anyone know roughly how much 45g oats would be in a mug? And also 340ml milk?

Thanks, I'm useless with microwaves and don't have scales at work :-)

Measure it out in your mug like this.I presume it's just an ordinary sized coffee mug.
Half a mug of oats .Then one and a half mugs of milk .
You need a big plastic jug so it doesn't boil over .
Oats in jug ,then milk, good stir .Microwave on high three mins.
That's on 800 W microwave .

good advice from shaneystar2.
Shaneystar covers it but I just wanted to say how messy it is to clean up anything that has exploded , popped , or boiled over in a microwave ! :-)
I make porridge every morning in the microwave and the easiest way I have found is to measure 4 tablespoons into a bowl, cover with milk, and cook on 850 for 1 min 10 secs, always perfect, you just need to increase the amount of porridge if it doesn't look enough, hope this helps.
i put the oats in a cereal bowl ,cover with water then stir to mix ,pop in the microwave for 2 mins then sprinkle with low cal sugar ,make a hole in the centre and pour the cold milk in the hole -yummy !!!
