I've managed to answer all the clues (eventually) and even get them in the grid...
...but I can't for the life of me see any words of advice??

A hint would be really appreciated.

The big grid is made up of four identical smaller grids ... since your clues fit them ok, then you may just have your answers in these four arranged in the wrong order. I steered clear of the full grid and instead drew up and completed the four small ones separately. Once that's done, you can physically shuffle them around (24 possible combinations?) and eventually you may just see some words which you recognise. Good luck, hope that's not too obscure!

Thanks for taking the time to answer cluelessJoe.

I had been shuffling the smaller grids around already, but while I can see some promising words, I can't make anything fit.

Grrrrr...

Too tough for me this time I think...

Just when I'd given up...

Is that a cryptic hint?

Are you sure you're doing the same crossword clueless?
Yes, it's a cryptic hint - and in maybe more ways than one. Hope it's not too obscure.

Another hours shuffling at lunchtime has given me indigestion.

I can find "is me dumb", which seems quite apt.

Do you think a normal person can get it?
(Please tell me now if its in latin so I can give up.)

Otherwise do you have a hint more at my level?
What kind of normal person spends half a lifetime on the Listener as we all seem to do anyway? As you suspect though, a Roman would stand a better chance - but I somehow seemed to manage to recognise it ... maybe through luck, maybe because something Geoff Wood taught me actually stuck there for all these years (that's not another clue, he really was my teacher).

My boss confiscated my bits of paper, and then excitedly returned five minutes later and asked if I would like to know the answer.

Not something I would have got, but at least I've been put out of my misery.

Clearly you and he are veritable smartipantses!

I shall highlight "is me dumb" on my version and leave it at that.

Thank you Clueless for being so generous with your experience.
I'm at the same point. Been shuffling these squares for days! My Latin is clearly not up to the job. Any further help much appreciated.

Thanks
