Can someone please explain the answer to a clue?

Having succeeded, be biased against women (6)
Answer - SEXIST. Apart from the obvious, do not understand the relevance of the first part of the clue.
Any offers, thanks, jerry

s = succeeded
be = exist
Why only women ?
Nice one, K. It's always the chaps "wot gets the blaime".
Most dictionaries agree that the term 'sexist' applies mainly against women. I also missed the cryptic connection.
Rather a feeble clue imho, typical of many that appear in The Telegraph cryptic these days. To expect us to know that the compiler thinks that S = succeeded is stretching things to say the least.
