I've been through chambers dictionary and can't find a word that makes any sense, is it sack and if so why?
19A What's nourishing baseball team? (4) N?N?
nuns? baseball makes runs, change r to n (nourishing), or am I way off line?

and
sack as in ransack = rifle through someone's belongings

Not very well explained. To sack is to rifle (a room ) and also to fire (employee.)
