18a Expert liable to pinion doves wings

A?E?T Why is the answer ADEPT. Can see connection to expert and liable but not to doves pinioned. Unless it just means the "D" is pinioned between "A" and "E".

Thank you PercyFlage. Learn something different every day. Could you let me know where the info about doves wings can be found?

Being extra thick PercyFlage. I see now the "D" and "E" refers to letters each end of word dove.
