What about an anagram in a general knowledge crossword, see 18a?
I agree. General knowledge should be just that and not contain cryptic clues if for no other reason than I am useless at them. My brain just doesn't work that way.
I agree with Cheshunt and JimJools re cryptic clues - my brain doesn't work that way either - fine when they are explained though. Regards Nell
