Each of these five seasonal riddles has a one word answer. The first letter of each answer makes a word that describes something we all make at this time of year.
1 A place to avoid later or a short violent usually Mexican drink (slammer I think)
2 Something you do to snuff, crumpet or someone you like (you don't toast snuff do you)
3 I'm occasionally bitter, pale but never small, and I don't feel well (ale I think)
4 Merry making or a mixed bag of chocs (?? revels or celebration)
5 What not to be until after midnight (horizontal, often squeaky)
Which gives S?A??. Could be start but you don't "make start". Any ideas?

No 2 is "pinch". So looks like it's SPA--. Do we all make space at this time of year?

Thanks very much. I'd thought that, though I couldn't think how you pinched crumpet. I realise I've not made it clear that "horizontal, often squeaky" was part of the 5th question, so I guess the answer to that is a word starting with e, given that celebration(?s) answers the 4th one.
Could 5 be Mouse as in Cinderella

I like the Cinderella idea, though the word would then have to be spasm I think.
