Eureka ! My letter to Santa worked. I am now the owner of a Bradfords !!! Thanks for the recomendation crofter, looks like a good one. The house is a bit quiet at the moment with other half and pussy cats asleep together so I thought I would have a look on AB and send my warmest wishes to all and to thank you for all the help, advice, answers and laughs you have given me this year. Hi earthkitten.
I, too, got a Bradfords from Santa. It seems very small about 3 inches by 5 inches, but Santa said that's all he could find in the Colonies.
I also got a Giant GK Crossword book by Michael Mepham, but I sent for that myself through the Daily Telegraph.
Thanks Crofter for the recommendation re the Bradfords. It might be small but I think it will be mighty so watch out in 2007.
earthakitten Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
PS. I think this is a first, but we are having a green wet Christmas. It seems so strange not to see any snow. Mind you on the western coast which usually gets this kind of Christmas they have had violent storms and loads of snow. Global warming?

Been a dry fairly bright and not too cold day here in Northamptonshire ontarioice. I can't remember when I last woke up to a proper covereing of snow on Christmas day but it must be 30 years ago. I do think it looks beautiful but every time it happens it seems to cause chaos here. Luckily it doesn't really affect me as shops and work are no more than 10 mins walk if need be. Don't worry about your Bradfords, I have heard it said that size isn't everything !!!
Hope you don't take offence ... I just couldn't resist. Enjoy the rest of your day ontarioice and thanks for all your help on AB. xx
Sorry earthakitten, didn't mean to leave you hanging. Busy right now as turkey in the oven et al.
Re size - the truth will out! :-)
I've just answered granny's post re the same--Crofter must have got shares in Bradford's--or is that his real ID????
Merry Christmas
Barbara
Hi earthakitten. Please can you tell me what a Bradfords is as I haven't got a clue. Hope you had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! xx
Hi,lizhoare, have just come online and will answer your question as I have had Bradfords for years and would not be without it. That and Collins dictionary are my most used reference books.
It is Bradford's Crossword Solver's Dictionary available in any good book shop.About 11 - I think there is a 2006 version but mine is 2004. It does improve from issue to issue.
I think ontarioice must have the Bradfords Pocket Crossword dictionary which is not the same format and much smaller.
Happy Christmas (what is left!)

Hi Liz ... Gill is right. I've only had it a day and already I have found a dozen answers that I would probably have had to ask on AB. It's fab. Mummy got me mine from Waterstones and paid 11.99. They also had them in Woolworths at some point, cheaper, but they had all sold out, probably due to crofter's recommendation.
It's a red book with a part crossword on the front
Bradfords Crossword Solvers Dictionary
The number one bestseller. The one I have is the 6th edition. ISBN 0-00-720894-4

Hope you all had a good one.
Hope the turkey was a success ontarioice. PS forgive this kitten's dimness but do you do 'Boxing Day' Love to you all xx
Yes, we do Boxing Day but some folks refer to it as St. Stephen's Day. Either way it is a civic holiday and leftover turkey.
Hi earthakitten snap I am really impressed with my Bradfords - came with a free Bradford's book of lists the section on swellings was good for a laugh. Also got a Times book of cryptic crosswords free. My best present this year.
