It seems that Blackbird is not the right answer, must be something odd

Why do you say that? The case looks quite strong!

It might be that magpie is the answer, as a magpie is black and white, but all the others have black plumage only.

True razza and some of the others are various shades of grey, but the strongest contender (corvids = crows) has been ruled out!

Jackdaws aren't entirely black either -- they have grey heads

Is it the Chough , because all the others nest in trees ?

The answer to the riddle was that the Blackbird was the odd one out, because the Female Blackbird is Brown where as all the females of the other birds mentioned are Black

But you said earlier that "it seems that blackbird is not the right answer" - see your posting on 19.9.06. These quizzes have somewhat tenuous rules or whatever,, don't they?

...and in any case - the females of all the other birds do not have black feathers - the female magpie has, like the male, black and white feathers. I would be taking that up with the quizmaster, if I were doing the quiz.... Perhaps it's as well I'm not.

The questions come from a radio audience so this maybe why, some of the answers are a bit weird and don't always seem logical. but my, thanks to you all, for your answers, most of the time, you clever lot out there, manage to get the right answer
