Hey Paula,

Sometimes the most simple weddings are the most beautiful. If I were you I would go for it.
I don't think you can get married in a marquee at your mum's, you woul dhave to use a licensed venue. Most Hotels are very expensive, the Register Office is your best bet.

Then you can all go back to the marquee in Mum's garden and have a few butties etc. You should allocate an amount per head, say 3, i could do a fab buffet for 50 people for 3 per head, check in the local newsagent who bakes cakes to sell from home, you only need a one tier cake really,.
paulakea,
Its YOUR wedding and no - one elses.

One of my best weddings I attended was my cousins.

Small registar office, then hired a hall, uncle got the drink from duty free, we all chipped in and done the buffet, friend done the music.
It was far better than my other counsins wedding at some posh hotel with expensive crap food (that I got food poinsing from) PLASTIC WEDDING written all over it - oh and they split up 8 months after, what a waste of money.

but its you and your hubbies day and as long as YOU enjoy yourselfs then thats the main thing.
If you are a church goer, you could have the legal wedding in the morning with just two witnesses and a religious blessing at home in the marquee.

i am not a church goer and would love to do it at my mums, if not a registry office followed by a buffet at my mums in a marquee.
Anyone know how much marquees and bar hire is rounghly?
I take it the link i gave before didnt help.

I had a wonderful wedding with everything a girl wants and at about a third of the cost of the average wedding at the time.

Id say that if your budget is minimal then you should sit and list out what the most important parts of the wedding are for you and concentrate on those.
My daughter is getting married next year and it is quite a big do (her choice) but at the weekend she went to a friends wedding and they had a marquee and a bar-b-que. They did have a band but you could always get someone to do some music for you. You will have a great time. Go for it.
I think you should go for it - a marriage is a marriage really wether you spend thousands and end up scraping by for the next few years paying it off - or just by having something small but sweet. I think your plan is a great idea it will mean more because it is unique to you both as a couple and it is a different idea from what the general population of followers go for!and itll surely be one to remember by all!
Good luck :)
you can save on all sorts of things...like the invites - just buy a ream of paper from a stationers - a nice colour - and just print them out with some clipart - or do them by hand if you have time.

do the same thing with place settings etc

me and bf want to do this too.can't imagine us doing all the stuffy tradition stuff. a friend had a budget wedding last year.she saved money by doing the invites and place tags herself after a short calligraphy course, getting her aunt to do buttonhole flowers and her stepdaughter to do her hair and make-up amongst other things.she still had her day in a hotel which was nice but a bit like every other wedding you've been to.marquee in your mum's garden will be much nicer and more personal i bet.

Cant actually get married in the marquee though which is a shame!
I would go for a marquee wedding whcih is always fun and far cheaper than a typical venue based wedding, ask the experts at
