Hi twaflooers,

Prebiotic: Prebiological, existing or occurring before the appearance of life; pertaining to the origin of life...

Probiotic: [after Antibiotic] (pertaining to or designating) a substance which stimulates the growth of micro-organisms, especially those with beneficial or desirable properties (such as those of the intestinal flora)...
Cannot take the credit for the knowledge though,

taken from the OED

Still if I ever go to a party, and someone asks - lets hope I remember!! Lol
Or....

Prebiotic - food substances which promote the growth of certain bacteria (generally beneficial) in the intestines.

Probiotic - are dietary supplements containing potentially beneficial bacteria or yeast, however lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are the most common microbes used.

Probiotics are products aimed at delivering living bacterial cells to the gut ecosystem of humans and other animals, whereas prebiotics are non-digestible carbohydrates delivered in food to the large bowel to provide fermentable substrates for selected bacteria.
