Have had a reply from MM - as expected it will be null and void with no prizes for people who have made the links anyway - many apologies for the error were included.

What a surprise! A lot of people who do not visit the Answer Bank will waste time and postage on yet another voided crossword. It really is not good enough. What can we do about it to make the Telegraph take us seriously?
It may be closed as far as MM is concerned, but what about all those of us who have bought the paper especially. I intend to complain and would encourage all others to do the same. After all, the link between the 2 crosswords is no doubt done specifically to boost sales.
Well, I have wasted the time, because I finished the crossword without noticing that the shaded bits were missing (how dim can you get!!), but I certainly won't be wasting the stamp or the envelope.

Nor will I be bothering to buy the Telegraph on Mondays in future! The crossword is the only reason I buy it on a Monday as it is not particular interesting for anything else!
Just as a side note , I notice the shaded squares are never missing from the Saturday's paper - now is that a coincidence or am I being cynical ?
Well observed bridgenut, and no, I doubt you are being cynical. Are you a fellow bridge player by the way?
Yes cheshunt , play bridge at my local club near Tranmere Rovers ground and also on line at Bridge Club Live .
I remember some years ago the Radio Times printed the wrong grid. I managed to work it out anyway, and sent in the completed crossword, only for the editor to declare the competitiion invalid a week later. I suppose that ****-ups like this make it too much of an elitist intelligence test rather than a lottery, and we can't have that, can we?!
Just to say I have registered my complaint with Telegraph Newspapers - but all I am told is that "there will be an apology in tomorrow's newspaper" I did mention that errors are occuring too frequently of late
I certainly am disgusted this has happened yet again, will check in future before I buy and would it not be a good idea to send completed crossword addressed to The Editor and if people can solve it without shaded squares should still be given credit we should all ask for our money back for todays paper as was incomplete and should not have been on sale.
