3 old ladies who live together go to a shop to buy a tv. The shopkeeper sells them a cheap one for 30. Off they go with the new tv, but the shopkeeper feels a bit sorry for them and tells his messenger to go after them and give them 5 back. On the way the messenger can't work out how to divide the 5 three ways so, he pockets 2 for himself and gives the ladies 3. So, they've spent 9 each on the tv totalling 27, then there's the two in the messengers pocket totalling 29, what happened to the remaining 1 ?

There is no missing l. You're making a false statement by saying they spent 27 on the TV plus the 2 pocketed by the messenger. The 2 is part of what they spent and they have 3 cash in their hands.
if i go into a darkened room(PITCH BLACK) and rummage in a draw containing ten red socks and ten white socks, how many do i need to take out to ensure i get a pair?
About the socks. The answer is three. If you take out two the worst you can have is one of each colour. the third one must make up a pair of one colour or another. You didn't specify that the pair had to be a particular colour.
