He officially left G'n'R in 1996 after Axl Rose decided he wanted the band to pursue a more 'industrial and electronic' style of music, whereas Slash wanted good old-fashioned guitar-based rock.

Velvet Revolver are a cracking band, duff is in it too. Falling to Pieces could be a gnr song. In fact the whole album is very gunsnrosesesque.
