Clue: Cricket's over - dentist's work , too? ( 6,7 ) two words. I have ?T?M?S ?E???E? I thought it was STUMPS REMOVED but that would make 23 across:-
O?T?T The clue for that is:- This digit's worth three bits (5) I can only see OCTAL which doesn't seem right. Help please?

I have Stumps Removed and Octal which do cross correctly and with Tally ho (L in Octal)

Hello kayakamina, yes I did have "tally-ho" that's how I got "octal", I just posted it wrong in my question. What I meant was that I couldn't see how octal fitted as an answer. It means a system based on the figure eight, what's that got to do with a digit or three bits?
An Octal is a number made up of thre binary digits (or bits), each octal having a decimal value of between 0 and 7. Thus 100 in Octal = 1x4 +0x2 +0x1 = 4, 111 = 1x4 + 1x2 +1x1 = 7
