Most likely BERTH - if the 'child's arrival' is announced (birth). But slightly debatable.
Yes, those are always difficult..I would say BERTH as the child's arrival is the thing being announced (it seems).

I never like these sort of clues.
Good compilers will always ensure that the questionable letter(s) is/are checked (ie. appear in a crossing answer).

Yes - crikey, where did that come from?!! I used to compile professionally for two mags until they centralised and syndicated everything - now it's really just for friends and for inside theatre programmes, company mags etc. Thanks for asking!
