What on earth has happened to the Herculis? Reduced prize money, and very easy clues: "the noise a pig makes" - oh per-lease! Are the Barclay brothers having an economy drive?

I was very surprised to finish it without consulting Answerbank. Did not notice the reduced prize money.I won a pen some time ago and although very pleased to have won I changed to the general knowledge in the hope of winning some money.Plus the glory!!
Thank God it isn't just me! Bank holiday and you look forward to a bit of a challenge and what do you get? Mind you this may be part of some bigger plan, look what happened to Sunday's crosswords!
i have won the herculis puzzle and received 500 prize.now that the prize has been reduced i will cancel the telegraph and try the times instead.who wants a telegraph parker pen anyway?? just phone saga for an insuarance quote and you,ll get a parker pen free gratis every year.
The money would be nice but I enjoy the challenge - anyway the chance of the Royal Mail actually delivering my answers is even less than me winning - even thought about recorded delivery! winge winge winge
I did the crossword without noticing that the prize money had been reduced. Surely everybody wants a "unique" Telegraph pen! Is it worth 250?
Why don't we all contact the Telegraph and ask why they are stopping/reducing prize money? First the Sunday Telegraph, now Monday's Herculis - is there a pattern emerging here?
I have to agree - it was disappointingly easy today - I didn't even have to move from the settee today, and finished both Sudokus, the Codeword and Herculis in about half an hour. Where's the challenge/fun in that?
what a set of whingers. i assume you are all pensioners and isuppose you had to find somewhere else to moan now that you don't have to queue for your pension.
Never assume anything columbus...pensioners or not the object of a crossword is to have something to challenge the mind and give the grey matter a workout whether you are seventeen or seventy.
If you win that's a bonus.
Hopefully you will receive your pension one of these days.

And...when a quality broadsheet dumbs down it's crosswords it is annoying.
I quite agree brainiac ...a child could have completed Herculis today in about five minutes.
And many congrats skybluefred..good job you won before they reduced the prize money !!
They must have a surplus stock of Telegraph pens !! and want to shift them and save some money at the same time. I find the chance of winning such an easy puzzle must be at so long odds so not worth the postage or the price of the Telegraph.

Glad you (nearly) all agree that it's been dumbed down. I won the 280 Cross pen in The Sunday Times last year so am not really interested in another pen (certainly not one that probably has Dail;y Telegraph written on it) - would rather hard cash ! But above all it's about the challenge.....
What does Herculis mean anyway?
It's the General Knowledge crossword in Mondays Daily Telegraph..The highlighted clues match with the highlighted clues from Saturdays GK crossword in the Telegraph,to make a two word term .
