I think 18a is petals and have jusu posted a plea for explanation of why 26a might be Gateshead

tks thought it was petals but the clue implies a singular word rather than a plural....

tks all guess i'll go with sepals
I would go for petals on 18a. Sepals are normally green and form a calyx tube under the corolla of petals.

The perianth is the "flower" of a plant made up of petals, sepals and all the naughty bits (anthers etc). Sepals are green in colour and the petals are the brightly coloured parts that attract insects.
