do we have a trick question here? If you follow the instructions then the answer should be 11. If you just "add all the numbers" involved then you get 36. Or am I missing something glaringly obvious?!!
Someone else asked about this type of puzzle recently - I've seen it, and similar ones, on ftn Quiz Night and I think you have to take out all the roman numerals as well. So in the word five you would have i, iv, and v. None of the puzzles make sense. If it was too easy they wouldn't be making money from the phone calls at 75p each, and not all calls are put through. Scam I'd call it...
Ah Consie - a fellow cynic! Thanks for the roman numeral point. Never thought of that.

You are welcome Dustybun.

Approximately 1,203.

Sentence gives 36. five has I + IV + V. six has I+ IX + X.

Add (twenty). divided has I + IV + V + VI + I and D = 500 (twice). plus the L in plus = 50 (twice).

Oops - divided has 3 Ds.
Now you are all cooking! Of course, I might not be right...

the answer is 2655. all the numbers equal 36. then there are roman numerals in the spellings which equate to: the L in plus =50. the IV in five=4. the MI in minus=1001. the IX in six=9 the L in plus=50. the DIVID in divided=1005. the last D in divided=500 and if you add them all together it totals 2655!! good luck on getting through!!

peterben is almost right. Go back to Friday 27th where this was previously answered and see my response about adding in the Roman numerals. peterben is almost right, but he hasn't divided the Roman numberals up. It's still a scam!
Oops, sorry umar, meant to reply to Bigboris who posted the question on 29/1!
