Just forget that the answers are rivers and put whatever comes to mind, I'll check later if they are rivers. I've done a hundred of these and come up with some strange answers that have turned out to be rivers, so put whatever you think -no matter how daft it may sound.

French general = Ney (good suffix for names!)
What about Waveney - (as in New Wave + Marechal Ney?)

Successful stroke... I thought maybe PASS and ALL. Found a reference in French to "riviere Passall" here http://www.univ-lille3.fr/theses/CADET_XAVIER/html/these _notes.html

Don't know if it is actually a river, though.
