Can I start a debate about the name of the hamlet? Many sources on the web point to John Winthrop having been born in Groton. Others say he was born in Edwardstone near Groton. It seems to me that both of these places could be called hamlets.
Which do you think is the correct answer?

Many thanks

Hi His father was Groton manor Lord ?and seems that would be right site I found was that, not sure about the airfield yet ?

Hi,

He was certainly born at Edwardstone near Groton, but the question is where he lived and was married .

This was at Great Stambridge in Essex.

I'll leave you to work out the rest of it - it's more fun that way!

Should have left them to work that bit out as well!! (more fun that way - took me quite a while).

I too made the mistake of looking for Winthrop's birthplace! The hamlet where he was married is definitely Great Stambridge, and the village for the workers of Crittall windows is Silver End in Essex.......should be easy from there!

Many thanks to you all for pointing out my mistake - I wasn't thinking straight last night. Got both answers in the end.
Thanks again.
