I think a gentle man with very silver wavy hair and brilliant blue eyes,
I think of a clever man who could sit and work out any problem, I think of a constant stream of people knocking at our door asking him to mend an iron, s radio / wireless), he was a great thinker

How would you describe yours?

I think of a young soldier who never got to see his twin boys grow up.

Canary that’s very sad no matter what the reason is
I remember a man who made a big fuss of me and called me princess.
He missed out on my brother (born 1937) growing up as he was away in the army during the war, but I was born after the war ended so he was always here for me except he didn't live quite long enough to give me away.
He died 6 months before I got married.
This was my biggest regret as he also never got to meet my children.

Wish there was a like button Barsel :0)
I see a very handsome man standing in RAF uniform whose only real love was flying. A man who broke my mother's heart. He was never really a 'my daddy ' person although he became more loving in old age.
I think my father & mother were ill-matched. She should have married someone with more ambition. They stayed together "for the sake of the children" and the fact that divorce amongst the working classes was difficult in those days, I suppose. I think he was quite lonely in the ten years before his early death.
I think of a man who was so forward thinking that he was 30 years ahead of his time.
I think of a man who was so determined that his daughter would never rely on a man that he made sure she could do most basic car repairs as well as any man
I think of a man who could turn his hand at any thing with a wicked sense of humour and a wee bit of a daredevil
I think of my dad who was my hero.
My Dad had been a military man (Sergeant),
He also had a short fuse.
My upbringing wasnt the best but looking back,
I can see where he was coming from.
Didnt appreciate it at the time.

He was an amazing Grandad though.
About to become a Grandad for the first time myself,
Hope I take after him in that regard....
I see a smiling smart man with black curly hair, a man who took me everywhere from fishing , to the Barracks and even sneaked me into his work van sometimes.

The man who made me a gorgeous doll's house and was my very best friend - my heart broke when he died aged 56.

Some beautiful memories of Dad/ Daddy here
I remember him as a "daddy" when I was young, but as a man whose demons chased him in older age. A man who was passed over for the young, and better educated in a job he had for 45 years. A man who increasingly found solace in drink and died too early.

So was my son...its a family tradition lol!
Just been on the phone actually to him & her.
Got a big teddy waiting lol.
Looking back, my dad was an absolute *** to me.
Super strict etc, but in retrospect he was doing what he thought was right at the time...
Pretty much how WE AlL conduct our lives anyway.

I think of a poor hen pecked man. Whose only refuge was the bookies.
I think of him as strict when I was growing up, probably too strict. I think of him as a good, hard worker who did plumbing jobs for all the 'old' ladies, who were probably younger than him. He charged them buttons and they all loved him. I think of him as an elderly man smiling at me as I walked in through the door and I remember thinking to myself 'who is that little old man sitting at the table'. Towards the end of his life I remember his face always lighting up whenever he saw me and I KNOW he regretted being too strict when I was growing up, but he needn't have worried because I forgave him a long, long time ago. I remember the day he died and I couldn't believe it (still can't), where has my big, strong, capable Dad gone ? Lastly, I remember his way of comforting me when I was sad, he'd say 'never mind, if you cry you'll wee less' ! Thanks Dad xx

Thanks for asking this question Bobbs.

Redhelen, that does not surprise me. You sound a like a chip off the old block :) x

My immediate vision is of the day he died and I was with him in A&E after a blue and twos arrival.

He was a man who always put himself last, whether it was for family or complete strangers. A hard working man who often was taken advantage of. A good man in all areas. He taught me lots of DIY and motor mechanics too. He always did my car MOT's stringently himself and charged me just the shilling for the certificate!
