I've had my cat for about 2 and a half months now and when I first got him he divided his attention equally between myself and my two housemates but in the last few weeks he has become very attached to me. Not that I'm complaining you understand, but I just wondered why this may have happened. He only ever sits on my lap, he sleeps on my bed, is almost always to be found in whatever room I am in and basically follows me around. I'm not the only one who feeds him, we all take equal care of him but the others are now wondering why he doesn't like them anymore! As I said I love the fact that he's become so attached to me but I don't want my housemates to feel left out of his affections! Any ideas?

Do you spend more time at home than your flatmates?

Or are you the first person up and the first person to get home?

We're all around pretty much equal amounts of time and I am the second (of three) to get up and leave the house in the morning. I am usually the first one home though. One of my housemates was off work for a week recently and there constantly but even this didn't make him go anywhere near her!

It is probably just as simple as the cat doesn't like your flatmates, they can be quite temperamental little things, so I would simply enjoy the fact that it loves being around you - there probably isn't a lot that you can do....unless you flat mates want to sit with it when it is feed time and feed the food to them?

Cats have a 6th sense and have feelings about people, he obviously likes you more. Do you have your bedroom door open more so he can jump on your bed easily compared to them? Maybe you talk to him better and make him feel at home. He could like your tone of voice more. You don't hear about cats doing this so much but birds have one favourite in the house.

Strange, I know...my kitten loves us both, but CLEARLY prefers my husband. If my kitten is sitting in my lap and then hubby shows up, she will go to hubby. The weird thing is, I'm the one who feeds her, plays with her more (as I'm home more) and takes care of her litter tray. Nice thanks, eh?

P.S. I did mention she's female, right? Well, my male cat clearly preferred me!
Lickick, she must be "daddies little princess"
Yes, they're just like humans and once they've decided to gravitate towards one particular person, you're theirs for life! Just one question though - do either of the others wear strong perfume or deodorants? Cats can often be quite sensitive to certain smells and if they don't like them will steer well clear of them whenever possible.
And how she is!!! :)
