I cannot fathom why posters thank the OPer for giving them the Best Answer.
Surely it should be the other way round.

It's the British way, similar to 'After you', 'No,after you' - eventually someone breaks rank and goes through the door. Passes an hour on.

Hasn't it always been like that?
If you give me best answer on this thread, Ill expect a thank you letter from me.

Been like what?
Even better, one from you.

Mozz...lol
Some of us give BA to recognise a input to the thread , and some mannerly say thanks
Err not speaking from experience mind you
Question Author
bobbi......that is my point.
When given the BA why does the poster then say "thank you?"

Just don't understand it.
Surely "thanks for thanks" isn't such an unusual concept is it really?

People who provide great entertainment on stage are deservedly thanked by their audiences with thunderous applause but the, after the applause dies down, the first thing they say to their audience is invariably "Thank you".

Similarly, I wrote a letter of thanks to the staff at the emergency department of our local hospital. I was both surprised and pleased to receive a letter in return from the senior consultant, thanking me for taking the trouble to offer my thanks.

So when someone is thanked by being awarded 'Best Answer', it doesn't seem at all odd to me for them to then offer their thanks for the positive acknowledgement of their post.
Me either Chris and in Sqads own words
"it's no Big Deal "
Question Author
Buenchico.....i dont agree.
It feels like "creeping" to me.
One thing that bugs me about BA, is when people lobby for an answer to get it, especially on posts which disagree with the answer in question. One of Tora's favourite quotes tends to be "There's your best answer right there"
sqad, you must be bored! By giving a BA the OP is in effect thanking the the poster, surely? Nowt wrong with a thank you, just polite, no?
22:30, there's your BA right there!
Question Author
Mozz...quite....non OPers telling the OPer which should bethe best answer.
It is non of the posters business.
Question Author
TTT......no not in my opinion..
I should've known if I mentioned your name youd suddenly appear lol
This is going to bother me for weeks now...
If I got a 'thanks for best answer' I'd change it and give it someone else
That's because you're a contrary git Roy.
