Oh yes choux, she is correct. Now the child has become the mother, I remember telling them that as children so I had to smile to myself.x

Not that cold here, 4°c - very mild considering we were on an orange weather warning a few days ago
minus 9 this morning. My daughter just rang to ask if I am wearing socks. You need to warm your feet she said, that will make you feel warmer. lol
-1
-1 here. Doesn't feel that cold though

Butterbun, she is quite right. I conceded this morning and dug out the thermal socks. Have been as warm as toast all day.
Eldest son just went in the garage to use his gym equipment dressed in shorts and body armour - soon came out to get trackie bottoms and a hoodie (you could see his breath though).
Baltic here walked the dogs at mid day wearing thermal leggings and tracksuit bottoms and 3 layers on top plus hat scarf and gloves brrrrr

Compared to Oymyakon in the Sakha-Yakutia republic where it’s currently -33C, this is sunbathing weather here: or would be if the sun was out ...
There's cold...and then there's real cold. Having experienced minus 40C on (two) Siberian holidays, I have never complained about the minus 2 or 3 over here!
It's about 1 or 2 degrees here. Doesn't feel too cold. I like cold weather, though, but don't much fancy the -30 odd that they've got in some parts of Canada right now.

Rockrose, I would have paid money to see your dogs wearing thermal leggings and tracksuit bottoms and 3 layers on top plus hat scarf and gloves !

Sorry, couldn't resist ;)

Ducksie, the same here but for a minus in front, brrrr.
Lol you mad woman you
"Having experienced -40C on (two) Siberian holidays" We've all done that. That doesn't mean that you will feel warm when you experience a few UK winters after your travels.
Question Author
SJ, quite so, it is the here-and-now that counts.
Lol I don’t think we’ve all experienced Siberian winters of minus 40. But I reckon most of us have experienced colder weather in the UK than we have just now. Too many mild wet winters more recently ...
I might have to go on a Scandinavian holiday again to satisfy my need for a cold winter.

I actually don't mind the cold or even snow. It is ice I worry about. I live in a rural area and there is no public transport at all. Keeping a good stock of food in winter is part and parcel of life. Whether walking or driving ice is a hazard to be tackled with the greatest care.
Ok. Compared to some countries it's tropical here. It snowed last night then froze. The road from here to the nearest sensible road is single track and like an ice rink. But we are stocked up and toasty.

This time last year when it was windy at my old house I had no leccy and thus no heating for 36 hours. Now that was cold. I bore it for so long and then fled to Mr BM'S house. It was lack of coffee I think.
