wine
Nile?
Wine
Nile
How is 'Nile' parsed please?
Is it LEA cut short +IN reversed (not sure why) as there is a river Nile a Nile lake
I think:
N (and) l (lake) set in some of the letters of f(ie)ld
is this definitely the exact clue for 21d?

Correct clue fiction-Factory
Thought answers were "wine" and "Nile" but still not sure why
Can see Wine - In/Hot in We.

Nile less satisfactory.
No idea for Nile
wine = drink, you and I = we, imbibe means tke in, hot = fshionble = In
w - in - e
wine is we containg in (hot)
also put Nile but not happy.
Is the E from abbreviation for electric field
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_field
or is niche a field, therefore ni(ch)e = short field. I don't like anything yet.
I don't think the river is the "Nene" either
The 'n' 'i' & 'e' fit the across clues l (lake) in = Nile but can't parse it.
I still think 'and' is the source of the N - sometimes abbreviation 'n' he the complier frequently uses random letter taken from a word in the clue, as he does here with the 'ie' in field
N "ile" french for a river islnd
Scrub that!
I think that Buntz has it.As he says using 'n' for and is a typical Skeleton thing.
N is the abbreviation for and (as in rock 'n roll)
Followed by l inside ie (from field)
