My journey from Worthing to Bournemouth last week was a nightmare
Looks as though this week will be even worse
No idea how to get back after the weekend

looks like for a journey from bournemouth to worthing you'll need to change at Southampton, and barnham or chichester; note there's a long wait at barnham/chichester. however there is a through service from southampton to worthing at 1434, taking 80mn.
