24a  Didcoi
24 A i think is Didicoi a word for a tinker or itinerant type of person. Didi (small) coy (shy)

Thanks for that - very quick! I see I mis-spelt "tinker" and the answer you probably meant was didicoi. It helps a lot!
somethings wrong in 19d because the answer is irksome
17 d Chindit C and T from caught and Hindi

Thankyou Shaneystar and Ineedahobby. The answer "irksome" should have been obvious. I had, for 26a. Not a patch on it. The "it" should be "me". Thanks again.
the only thing I can think of to fit in that last one is nightcaps, but I cant justify it at all.
It will probably be an anagram of lined hats (as in "Tailor the letters in lined hats...") to give a word for hood - but I can't see it

In that case my anagram solver brings up Nithsdale?

Still oblivious though lol

lol again just looked it up in chambers, its an 18th century womans riding hood apparently
Question Author
I thought 2d might be an anagram but if so it escapes me! Nithsdale is attractive but as a place in Scotland it takes a bit of bending to make it fit the clue!
Brilliant - what teamwork!! What's your anagrammer, out of interest? I'm away from my professional crossword compiling software!

I use chambersharrap.com when I'm in a pickle, and I agree this sort of teamwork is what Answerbank is all about.

Hip Hip......

Brilliant ineedahobby !  I think you've hit the jackpot with Nithsdale. Thanks.
