Just bringing this to the top. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far.  All the clues below are places in the British Isles. I've got answers for some of them, but can't find the place on a map, so feel free to post any answers. Number of letters is given and also the probable starting letter (as they are in alphabetical order).

Had thought of Croft before I realised they were in ABC order. The only thing I can think of is Hoose, but I can't find it on a map.
