Really don't get what all the hype is about

A couple of years ago the Tour of Britain came near to where we live en route, so we went along where we waited for around an hour while the crowd cheered the passing police motorcycle outriders to relieve the sheer boredom, until the cyclists finally whizzed past - 30 seconds of action, blink and you missed it

It's hardly a spectator sport

Tour De France kicks off in Yorkshire!

Do Not Buy a French Sat-Nav!
I can;t understand what all the frenzy is about joeluke. One village not far from me is locked down for the day, no one in or out.

It will all be over in 10 minutes!
I agree.

A good 'one off' for those in attendance today though.
Cambridge is closing for the day on Monday. Ridiculous
\\It's hardly a spectator sport\\

The phrase "Was that it" springs to mind

Overhyped
The caravan is brilliant as is the revenue being brought to the region, yes there is some inconvenience but it really shouldn't be coming as a surprise.

Don't be so mardy!
when I was little I had to have a bath(yuk) and put my Sunday best on, yomped to the other end of town to see Prince Charles going to his Investiture. Flashed past at 70mph. what a swizz.
It was here in Kent and Sussex a few years back. Whoosh, and they'd gone!

I don't understand why it's in England, if it's the Tour de FRANCE?
geez oh, Charlie on a bike t 70mph/
I went to a marketing event a couple of years ago
Believe me it's more than 30 seconds
Meant to add I saw the race in London a few years ago
The riders flew past had no idea who was who
Joeluke - with this and your comments on ChillDoubt's thread in Sport, you clearly either don't like cycling or the Tour de France or both. As has been said here already, it is most certainly more than a 30 second spectacle. I have been fortunate enough to be on L'Alpe Duez for a stage. The atmosphere was electric. Yes the riders take longer to pass by as it's a mountain stage, but any stage is worthwhile to be present at. It's a fantastic event, and has the largest audience for a sporting event not held on a single day.

I'm not sure what you mean, have you got a comparison link?
It's been a great day for Yorkshire, we have welcomed the cyclists all along the route from Leeds to Harrogate. Tough on motorists, we slipped up and got stuck in traffic thinking that the route would be cleared of barriers and cones as soon as the pelatons had gone it creating huge tailbacks. But all in all it was a lovely day and the scenery showed what a lovely county I live in.
I enjoyed looking at the beautiful scenery on TV but I would stay safely indoors if it were to come to our region.
Thousands upon thousands lined the route all the way, roy, if it had been a wet day maybe not quite so many would have shown up, but it was a lovely day. I watched it on tv and was surprised at the number of people.
I think they should race very very slowly just for joeluke.
I think they ought to arrange a mobility scooter race for Joe.

Sounds far more exciting than the cycling
