Apparently this ale has been banned in the House of Commons bars because it may cause offence. since the label portrays Morris dancers with blackened faces.

Perhaps that is why our mines closed because some were against the miners coming up from the pit with blackened faces? :0)

For once I agree with your sentiment.

There is absolutely nothing about the Coconutters, or their appearance which has the teeniest smidgen of Racist over-, or even under-, tones.

Someone really ought to have done their homework on this....
guy the other night was taking the hinges off the gate to be of with it I decided to say nowt in case he took a fence
A more important question that needs to be addressed is why the Palace of Westminster should have bars serving alcohol at all. Virtually no employer provides such facilities on site these days. There have been a number of instances of MPs misbehaving having had too much electric soup and there is no justification for providing alcohol - especially at prices subsidised by the taxpayer - at a place of work.
What's the connexion between coconuts and miners then?
The “coconuts” are, today, wooden discs that clack rhythmically as the dance unfolds, but in earlier times would have been the real shells that miners wore to protect their knees and elbows.
