Am really struggling with all the long words.

Also has anyone heard of the expression

Have usually finished it by this time but today either I'm useless or it's extra difficult.

Noticed-once I'd put my speck on- that I'd even made a hash of spelling the question.

I can see holding length ie. 'l' 'up' in the 'air' with 'end' maybe but where do you get the E R P and C from? Perhaps I'm having a bad day, but I can't see an anagram anywhere!

Yes barender I messed it up by trying to do it too hastily.

My latest and last effort has produced UNPREDICTABLE which is an anagram of caber upend it and l (for length)
