/// In December, BBC management told programme producers there was "no excuse" for not having women on comedy panel shows after new sex-representation objectives were set by the BBC Trust. In July last year, the Trust asked BBC director general Tony Hall to get more women on air "as a matter of urgency" throughout 2013-14. ///

Will this make them more funny, or is it yet another equality exercise by the BBC?

How long before Top Gear has a female presenter? I'm sure it has a lot to do with equality.
well, it's not the bbc per se doing an equality exercise, it's the BBC trust telling them to do it
Tomayto Tomarto.
I can t think of any female comediennes, past or present that I consider to be funny.
lol, thats because (apparently) you don't see them on the bbc!
of course you can't, Sqad, because the BBC won't screen them. Maybe in future they will. Yes, it's an equality exercise.
Nooooooooooooo! Not if it means more Jo Brand :(
I mean on ANY programmes.....not just BBC.
I think Josie Lawrence is very funny.
hc, I assume "more female panellists" is meant as a call to find more women, not more of the same women they already use.
What a load of old cobblers, surely comedy shows are to show comical people I cannot possibly see how this depends on whether someone is male or female.

WR.

Shappi Khorsandi is also a very funny woman. I still chuckle at what she said on HIGNFY a few years ago - we don't need a mad mullah, we want a mullah lite. :D

Perhaps ITV should now think about it's 'Loose Women' programme?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Loose_Women_presenters
I agree -we should have ,at least, one Woman, one Gay, one Muslim, one Lesbian-etcetera etc etc.
Curiously, this doesn't seem a problem with The News Quiz on radio. That even has a lesbian presenter, Sandi Toksvig, as it happens. It may be that the format of that show, with each guest being invited to answer questions and do their comedy about it separately, removes Jo Brand's objection. She has said that comedy panel shows can be difficult for women, the men shouting each other down. That format doesn't suit female comedians.

The new directive may improve matters.

Interesting...I can't think of any female comedienne that I don't find funny.

Jenny Eclaire.
