2. Screw up, say, as far as we've got (5)  T_T_N

I believe the answer is TITAN (sounds like TIGHTEN), but what's the connection with "as far as we've got" as the rational part of the clue?

I think this is to do with space exploration Crofter, Titan being Saturn's 15th moon, being probed right now by the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft.  Don't know for sure but I think this is "as far as we've got" in terms of mileage!

johnalex. Your explanation will do for me! Thanks for this. I simply dislike not knowing exactly how the answer fits the whole clue!

Crofter, you won't believe this but our family's signatures are actually in that spacecraft!  These were all sent to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, over 7 years ago where they were scanned, together with thousands of others, before being transferred to disc, then loaded on board before launch. A sort of "message in a bottle". Saturn actually has 34 moons, Titan being the 15th, aptly named, being bigger than Mercury and Pluto! Further info:  http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.cfm
