backpackers looks like being hostellers but your P would be wrong
23a Phlegm
18d could be slapdash
24d I would say stain.
18d Slapdash?
16a impression, Dint would fit up to now

but the watch bit I dont get
16a could be view if there is a possibility the existing 't' could be wrong
Question Author

So sorry - I had checked my other answers but obviously not carefully enough!

16A. Is VIEW - thank you ipek - my T should have been W!

20A. HOSTELLERS looks good - so thank you kev100, my P WAS an S!

23A. PHLEGM is definitely correct - thanks shaneystar - once again I had an E instead of an M!

29A. Thumb, tie and hiccup (5) correct blanks are: ----H?

18D. Slipshod, disorderly - With phlegm being correct, it makes the blanks: (8) -L-H-A--

24D. Blemish, stigmatise (5) - With phlegm being correct, it makes the blanks: E-I--

Thanks for all your help so far! And sorry for my earlier mistakes!

This makes 29A Hitch
18D is looking more like slapdash - check the 'p'?
sorry - (DUH) check the 'h'
Question Author
Yes, I agree with slapdash, but that would mean that the P would be where the H is in PHLEGM. Can you think of another word for MATTER COUGHED UP? It would be -P---M? Just realised..... it's SPUTUM isn't it?
You got it!! What does that leave us for 24D?
which must make24d taint
Hooray!!!
Question Author
So then the last one is BLEMISH, STIGMATISE - it's now T-I-T - that will be TAINT I think?
Question Author

Oooh, thanks guys, I'm exhausted now!!

Really appreciate all your help - hope I can repay the favour some day!
