Thank you bibblebub and also thanks to Factor 30 for trying to help me. Once I get one or two in I can then get some but it is a stinker this crossword
I can't work out whether BOWLER is a hat or a cricketer
I'm just bumping this up onto the latest posts list in the hope that someone knows the answer as I couldn't work it out last night and then I had a dream I'd solved it but when i woke up I couldn't remember the answer!

You sound very much like me Factor 30 I puzzle out things in bed and wake up in the morning and have forgotten what I had got for my answer We are a couple of dimwits!!! Thanks for trying anyway
I think I thought of HIT THE STUMPS but that's on 3,3,6 and although it fits the first part of the clue it seems to have nothing to do with the second half.
Maybe bibblebub will see this
i'm looking... i'm not coming up with any answers yet... maybe my brain will click into crossword mode sometime this week
Thanks bibblebub.
Of course I may have been on the wrong track completely- it may be a hat reference.
GET THE HATRICK????
Or get his hattrick
Hattrick is eight letters and is usually written as hat trick
That'll probably be it!
Get his hatrick.
I can't see all the wordplay
7) The Winter's Tale = thew + inter + stale
Yes it would work if it was 3,3, 8
1a) hit the jackpot

what the bowler tries to do = HIT THE JACK - in bowls
cover up = top reversed = TOP
Brilliant. It was neither cricket or a hat.
^ cover up = top reversed = POT
Well done Bibbles. My brain was starting to ache.
I knew you'd get it bibblebub. I had the wrong kind of bowler.
