Ford Orion 1.8D making an interesting noise

My Orion has started to make a kind of grinding noise. It appears mainly when releasing the clutch, although not everytime. The best way I can describe the noise is that it sounds like a wheel is fouling the bumper, although not as loud (and it isn't this as it also happens when the car is being driven in a straight line). Does anyone have any ideas??? Thanks.

Only a guess but it could possibly be the CV joint on a driveshaft beginning to break up. Worth checking to see if the protective gaiter is burst. Best of luck.
