I am going to Manchester next weekend and was wondering what there is to do in the city centre on the morning and afternoon of Saturday 4th June.

I do not want to go shopping, but need a good distraction to keep me off the booze!

Thanks.

How about the Museum of Science and Industry, or give the tourist info a ring
If you're into a bit of culture there's the art gallery on Mosley St, the Urbis Museum, the Cathedral (both near Printworks), or you can hop on the Metro to the Imperial War Museum or Glazer's Palace i.e. Old Trafford. The tourist office is by the town hall on St Peters Square. Enjoy!

Hi - I hope you get this - I only just spotted your thread!  There's a special event on in Platt Field's Park Fallowfield - entertainers in the park etc.  Goodness know is we'll get the weather for it though!.  If it is, then from Picadilly Gardens, the bus stand nearest to Marks and Sparks Simply Food, get on any bus for Fallowfield/Didsbury - a 42,142, 43 or 143 are all fine.  You'll pass the university and then a mile of curry houses, the park's just after that on the right.  Most bus drivers are very nice.

On the University Campus, the Manchester Museam is free.  It's got amazing Egyptian Mummys, but also a lot of stuffed animals (if that's your thing!)

delboy3 may have enjoyed Urbis, but personally I thought it was the biggest waste of space EVER.  It was rubbish!  But others may disagree!

I'll think of other ideas and keep you posted!

PS - I've been a student here for nearly 4 years (although I had 6 months in Germany and now I'm fresh back to the city and full of the joys of it again!!!)
