There are several different spellings for this word in my dictionaries -abune,abuin,aboon,abone,abin.

abuin is probably the answer looked for although I don't believe there is such a spelling.
abune or abuin are not in my Dict. Thats not to say they don't exist. Strange word indeed ?

It is not in Chambers, The Scots Concise, The Scots dialect or the Doric that I have.

Thanks for that vote of confidence,Wharton!! Actually,I can't remember seeing it spelt abuin.The written Doric is quite difficult-we would pronounce it-abeen-at least that's the way I've always heard it pronounced

Me again. Just checked some of my Doric books and in the "Teach Yourself Doric" book abeen is given for above.
The spelling ABUIN is listed in the OED.
Hi,HK,abuin is in Scots-English,English-Scots Dictionary (published by Lomond Books)
