If you have recently bought it, surely it is now too late to do anything about reducing the tax?

Do you mean Stamp Duty?
Are you in the US ? This is a UK site so, if you are, it's very unlikely that we'll have the answer.
Are you talking about Council tax perhaps? If so then you can get your allocated tax band reviewed if you think it is wrong but even the cheapest ones are dear!
Ah, stamp duty, the tax on moving, and local property rates a tax on improving. Tax should be based on how much you got out of the system and so can reasonably be asked to contribute back into it.
I thought maybe council tax too if it's been bought already (unless exchange of contracts has taken place or another jurisdiction or something like that).

Can you confirm where the home is and which tax you mean?
I'm just glad Mark Rae hasn't seen this post.................
There isn't much you can do about your property-tax rate, which is set by your local government. But homeowners can often get their assessment lowered if they appeal to their local assessor. That can translate into a lower tax bill.
