Easter noun, Christianity 1 a religious festival celebrating the resurrection of Christ, held on the Sunday after the first full moon in spring, called Easter Day or Easter Sunday. 2 the period during which the festival takes place, thought of as running from Good Friday to the following Monday, called Easter Monday.
ETYMOLOGY: Anglo-Saxon eastre, perhaps from Eostre, the name of a goddess associated with spring.
