Unexceptional learner attached to university in republic (5) _ _ U _ _

I had USUAL as my answer but the clue going across it won't go, so what else can it be?

Also - What I do with large collection of diamonds, say, in the same place (6) I _ _ _ _ _ (thought of ICICLE but not sure)

Any help gratefully received!! Thanks!

From memory Usual is correct. Can't remember what the across clue was. Can you remind me?
Would 2nd one be INVEST?
University = u in republic = usa + l for learner

If USUAL is correct then - 15 down which I had as Tactfully goes to pot = With touch, primarily, in fact (9) The F going where the U was. Any idea what 15 down is? Thanks!
Therefore?

No, doesn't fit in with other clues going across. The only word which fits is TACTFULLY. Oh well, back to the drawing board........ :O(
To the OP: it really does help if you post crossword clues in the correct section (Crosswords under Quizzes & Puzzles) where you are able to use the title builder to construct the title of your post properly. This will include the number of the crossword in question, which I (and any number of the other regular participants in the Crosswords section) could have looked up very quickly for you...
Tactually = t + actually
If I remember correctly the answer was tactuality
Too many letters
Which crossword is this, please...?
You're right. Tactually. Times, either yesterday or Tuesday.
